Gabriel
Macht was born in the Bronx and raised in Westchester, New York, until he was 5,
when his father relocated the family to Los Angeles. [His father is actor Stephen
Macht, who -
among many film and television credits - had recurring roles on both The
Practice and Melrose Place.]
Gabriel Macht made his acting debut as a child in the feature film "Why
Would I Lie?" starring Treat Williams. Later, he attended the noted Carnegie
Mellon School of Drama
in Pittsburgh, where he received a bachelor of fine arts degree in drama. [This
is the "oldest degree-granting drama program in the United States..."]
After graduation, he took off for Sardinia and toured Europe for a few
months, and on his first day after returning stateside, he was cast in the
television movie "Follow the River" with Sheryl Lee. He then
went to the Arena
Stage in
Washington, D.C. to appear in "What the Butler Saw" [1994-1995 Season]
before heading to New York where he guest-starred in episodes of "Spin
City" and "Sex and the City" (as Barkley
the Modelizer).
While there, he appeared off-Broadway as Elvis Presley (aka "The
Visitor") in comedian Steve Martin's [1995] production of "Picasso at
the Lapin Agile."
A self-described "character actor," Macht's other feature credits are
the acclaimed independent films "The Adventures of Sebastian Cole,"
and the upcoming "101 Ways" and "The Bookie's Lament," the
latter of which concerns Irish gangsters in Hell's Kitchen during the 1970s and
involves him as star and producer. Among his other credits are the television
movie "Guilty Until Proven Innocent" and the stage production of
"La Ronde" (directed by Joanne Woodward) at the Williamstown
Theater Festival.
He remains active in theater via his association with the avante-garde Mad Dog
Theater Company in New York, which produced the play "To Whom It May
Concern" at the Belgrade International Theatre Festival. [BITEF, September

On his own time, Macht enjoys playing billiards, whitewater rafting,
snowboarding, traveling (especially to Hawaii),
attending movies,
spending time with his family, and is a "huge" New
York Yankee fan
who attended World Series games during the 1996, 1998 and 1999 championship
seasons ("I was among those swarming on the field after the last game of
the Series last year!"). His birthday is January 22. [He was born in
